Missoula Details & FAQ’s
What is Missoula Children’s Theatre?
The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring theatre residency company and has been producing shows with Bird Rock Elementary students since 1993. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales…a twist on the classic stories that you know and love.

What are dates for Missoula?
Our Missoula residency week runs Monday, November 18th - Friday, November 22nd, 2019. This is the week prior to our Thanksgiving Break and Monday-Friday will be half days due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.

What is this year’s production?
Missoula Children’s Theatre presents “The Snow Queen”, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen story. Although set in a “land of colored ice,” this classic tale will warm your heart in its illustrative retelling by a group of fun-loving, imaginative hobgoblins. As they depict the journey of a young girl and her quest to find her best friend, you may just find yourself believing in malevolent mirrors, yetis, talking reindeer, and snow chickens! Blizzards can come at any moment, so strap on some snowshoes and get ready to discover what it takes to overcome chilling obstacles, keep resilience alive, and melt down the Snow Queen’s icy walls.

Our Missoula tour team, Actor-Directors Ashley Ann Pearce and Lindsay Abrams will arrive at BRE with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast! The group audition is on Monday for registered students. Roles will be announced at the end of the group audition. This year, all children who sign up will receive a part in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances will be presented on Friday, November 22nd, with talented accompanist and beloved music teacher, Julie Misleh.

Who is eligible to audition?
Students are eligible every other year. If your child was cast in the 2018 MCT’s production of “Robin Hood”, he/she is ineligible this year. The exceptions are the following: children of the Missoula Host Families, Missoula Co-Chairs and the children of the BRE “Hook-up” Winner (Gala/Auction item).

What you should know before the audition and accepting a role in the play?
Please understand that your child is expected to attend ALL rehearsals. NO EXCEPTIONS such as other after school activities (sports, music lessons, etc). Missoula does not recast the parts, so it is very important that your child really wants to participate, can attend all rehearsals and shows (see schedule below). Accepting a role when your child is not interested or available is unfair to the other students in the play and for students who were not able to participate due to full registration. If your child drops out of the play, he/she will be ineligible to audition the following year.

When are Rehearsals?
Immediately after auditions some students will begin rehearsals. All students are expected to be available every day after school. Rehearsal schedule subject to change. Directors, Ashley and Lindsay will provide a detailed rehearsal schedule on Monday, November 18th but it should be very close to what is shown below.

Is there a fee to participate in Missoula?
Bird Rock Foundation sponsors Missoula Children’s Theatre. Missoula falls under the programs side of BRF, which means it is a self-funding event. In order to cover our costs, we are selling tickets to the performances. General Admission ($5/Kids & $10/Adults) available for our two Friday performances (4:00pm & 6:00pm). Tickets will be available online or cash is accepted at the door. In addition, BRF will offer refreshments and flowers before and after each performance. Please donate some snack food, fresh fruit, or drinks that will be available for sale before and after each show. Your support of these efforts will also help cover our Missoula expenses.

We’re in the show, now what?
Please send children to rehearsals with snacks and water. At home, please go over their lines with them and help them be responsible with taking care of their scripts, costumes and props. Parents, we’ll need your help both during the week and especially on show day. Please look for sign-up opportunities such as stage-set-up/breakdown, dressing room monitors and concessions. Just ask Lori how you can help.
