Robotics with Python – For Raspberry Pi Wars

About this Item

This course will teach students how to build a robot with Raspberry Pi and control it using Python. The robot will be mobile and also has image recognition capability via Pi Camera. The team-built robot will enter the UCSD’s PiWars competition to be held on April 4, 2020. In this class, students explore basic components of motors, sensors, and electronics. They also use image processing and GPIO modules in Python. More details about the competition is at https://piwars.ucsd.edu/.

Programming Language: Python
Platform: Raspberry Pi and other electronics/LEGO modules
Course materials: Raspberry Pi, Pi-camera, servos, etc (they need to be purchased by students, approx. cost is around $120 per team). A detailed list of materials and ordering information will be provided 2 weeks before class starts.

Audience: 6-8th graders, preferably having some coding experience with Python.

If the student qualifies for free lunch, please contact the instructor for reduced tuition.

Class time: Thursdays 3:30 – 4:30 (1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27, 3/5, 3/19, 3/26) and competition day on Saturday 4/4/2020. There is no class on 3/12.
